AI as Design Material: Adapting to Create a Human-Centric Future

The age of AI is here, and it’s changing everything about how we design. No longer static or predictable, our design material is now intelligent, evolving, and dynamic. For UX and HCD practitioners, this isn’t just a technical shift—it’s a profound opportunity to redefine our craft and our role in shaping the future.

This talk isn’t about mastering specific tools. It’s about embracing a new mindset. To stay relevant, we must evolve how we think, collaborate, and design for systems that learn, adapt, and sometimes surprise us. By broadening our skills, embracing experimentation, and working alongside data scientists and engineers, we can ensure that AI systems remain human-centered and ethically sound.

The choices we make today will define the relationship between humans and AI for years to come. If we fail to adapt, we risk becoming obsolete. But if we rise to the challenge, we can lead the way in designing AI that enhances humanity rather than diminishes it.
